How Velvet was born.
Being Nigerian in Europe doesn’t erase your ties to Nigeria. The same for Africans in the diaspora. You know this. Family, friends and obligations don’t go away. It’s part of what grounds us.
Every week we had to send funds back home, just like you. But we realized soon that a good amount of that money wasn’t getting home. Not the full value we intended. Too much was being lost on the way. Charges. Exchange rates. And more.
Our team also works closely with the healthcare sector. And we noticed that their busy schedules also made it difficult for them to take the time to discover platforms that could make their lives easier. We noticed that too much of their money was lost in things like fees, delays and long processes.
As busy professionals, this was the same problem we were facing.
So we decided to create a solution, knowing that if we got it right, immigrants just like us won’t have too much of a reason to seek other services. After all, if there’s one thing we all want for our money it’s trust, reliability and speed. At Velvet, we’ve created all three of those for the diaspora community.
